Training for Regional Media Representatives
Training courses on electoral issues for regional media representatives were launched at the Central Election Commission (CEC). Tamar Zhvania the CEC Chairperson, Giorgi Sharabidze Deputy Chairperson, Natia Zaalishvili Director of CEC Training Centre, and David Ghonghadze, an Expert of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) greeted the participants of the training.
The role of media in electoral process and review of updates in election legislation are the major topics of the training. Representatives of Election Administration (EA), the CEC Training Centre, the IFES, and Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia provided detailed information to journalists about regulations on photo/video shooting on E-day, gender equality in elections, enhancing inclusive electoral environment, international standards for electoral security, legislative mechanisms for ensuring safe electoral environment, use of administrative resources, international experience in view of election coverage and main schemes for the coverage.
“The EA together with the Training Center and the IFES continues its tradition of holding three-day study cycle for regional media representatives so that we all together experience and see what the updates in legislation are, what election is, what the good and international standards for election coverage are and so forth. Therefore, I think that the next three days will be productive and very useful for journalists ahead of presidential election”, noted Giorgi Sharabidze.
Training courses are conducted by the CEC and Training Centre with the support of the IFES and in partnership with “Georgian Regional Media Association” and “Journalism Resource Center”.
Journalists from TV/Radio broadcasting, print and online media will undergo the training course during three days.
