Roundtable 25 April, 2012
“Increasing Participation of Women in Political Life” was the main subject of the Roundtable, conducted at Sheraton Metechi Palace Hotel on April 25, 2012.
The meeting was initiated by the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia, the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) and Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR). Political Parties, local NGOs and international organizations participated in the meeting.
Possible practical steps of political parties to be implemented for improving gender balance for the Parliamentary Elections 2012, were discussed at the meeting, – due to the fact that this year political parties will have the opportunity to increase the representation of leader women, award them with more motivation to be actively involved in political life and relatively support the development of democratic processes.
The Roundtable was followed by a two-day intensive seminar.
Female representatives of political parties considered as election candidates and election campaign managers participated in the seminar. The seminar was the great opportunity for participants to learn about the latest effective campaigning techniques, developing leadership skills, using the media effectively and etc. Seminar was leaded by top-quality international experts.
The main goal of the Roundtable on “Increasing Participation of Women in Political Life” and the follow up two-day seminar is to improve gender balance and increase active participation of women in political life.
