Third Annual Meeting of Election Management Bodies, 2013
On February 20-22, 2013 the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia hosted the election management bodies of East Europe and Central Asia. Representatives of election management bodies from various countries, as well as representatives of international and local non-governmental organizations attended the third annual meeting. Together with the OSCE countries, representatives from Israel, Nepal and Indonesia attended the conference for the first time.
The main topic of the conference was “Conflict Management in Electoral Process.”
The Central Election Commission conducted the conference in cooperation with International Centre for Parliamentary Studies (ICPS exists to promote effective policy making and good governance through better interaction between Parliaments, Governments and other stakeholders in society. The Centre also provides internationally recognized professional qualifications in the areas of electoral processes, governance, Parliament and policy, and these are accredited by the Chartered Management Institute).
Representatives of various management bodies made the presentations and expressed their views on the main topic of discussion. Companies, working on electoral technologies - Smartmatic, Cross Match Technologies, Dominion Voting Systems, Scytl and Gilat Satellite Networks introduced the optical scanners, special machines for electronic voting and other innovative technologies to the meeting participants.
Georgian election administration considers that the similar meetings support sharing mutual experiences, elaboration of joint methods in order to improve election environment and promote democracy.
