Second Annual Meeting of Election Management Bodies, 2012
On February 9-11, 2012 the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia hosted the Election Administration representatives from Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The two-day meeting was conducted in the city of Batumi. The CEC organized the meeting in cooperation with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the Supreme Election Commission of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara. The main goal of the meeting was to share international experience of election processes of various countries, develop cooperation in the region, and establish tighter connection among election administrations. At the meeting the sides discussed the lessons learnt during the previous elections as well as the elections planned in the nearest future, they examined the ways of elaborating principles for future cooperation.
Representatives of the election administrations of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Lithuania, Moldova, Slovenia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan participated in the conference.
IFES, OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR), Association of European Election Officials (ACEEEO), Centre of Electoral Systems Development, Reforms and Trainings and Commission for Ensuringthe Accuracy of Voters’ List also attended the meeting.
Conference was conducted for the second time and is organized annually. Last year the meeting was conducted in Sighnaghi, Georgia. Representatives of election administrations elaborated the cooperation protocol and agreed on the methods to be developed in order to improve election environment.
